DEMIAN (fragment)

Y I told the story of a boy in love with a star. He adored his star by the sea, stretched her arms toward her dream with her and directed all his thoughts. But he knew or believed namely, that a star could not be embraced by a human. He believed that his destiny was to love a star without hope, and on this idea built around a poem critical of renunciation and silent suffering and faithful that would purify and perfect. All his dreams were focused on the star. One night I was back by the sea, on a cliff, watching the star and burning love for her. At the moment of greatest passion got a few steps forward and jumped into the void, to meet him. But the moment of jumping thought it was impossible, and fell to the beach destroyed. He had not known love. If at the time of launch would have had the strength to believe strongly in the conduct of his love, had flown up to meet with his star. (...)

The things we see are the very things that we have in us. No more reality than we have inside. That's why most human beings live so unrealistically, because they believe that external images are reality and not allow your own inner world revealed. It can be very happy as well, but when you know the other, and you can not choose the path of the majority.
